न हि ज्ञानेन सदृशम् पवित्रमिह विद्यते।
तत्स्वयं योगसंसिद्धिः कालेनात्मनि विन्दति॥
— भगवद्गीता ४-३८
na hi jñānena sadṛśam pavitramiha vidyate|
tatsvayaṁ yogasaṁsiddhiḥ kālenātmani vindati||
— bhagavadgītā 4-38
"On earth, there is no purifier as great as knowledge;
He who has attained purity of heart through a prolonged practice of karmayoga automatically sees the light of truth in the self in course of time."

नास्ति ग्रामः कुतः सीमा नास्ति विद्या कुतो यशः।
नास्ति ज्ञानं कुतो मुक्तिर्भक्तिर्नास्ति कुतस्तु धीः॥
nāsti grāmaḥ kutaḥ sīmā nāsti vidyā kuto yaśaḥ |
nāsti jñānaṁ kuto muktirbhaktirnāsti kutastu dhīḥ ||
If there is no village how can there be a boundary? If there is no learning how can there be fame?
If there is no wisdom how can there be salvation? And if there is no devotion how can there be intellect?

अपृष्ट्वैव भवेन्मूढ ज्ञानं मनसि चिन्तनात्।
अपूर्णः कुरुते शब्दं न पूर्णः कुरुते घटः॥
apṛṣṭvaiva bhavenmūḍha jñānaṁ manasi cintanāt|
apūrṇaḥ kurute śabdaṁ na pūrṇaḥ kurute ghaṭaḥ||
One becomes a fool not by questioning; wisdom comes from deep thinking.
A vessel, not full, makes noise, but not one that is full.

स जीवति यशो यस्य कीर्तिर्यस्य स जीवति।
अयशोऽकीर्तिसंयुक्तः जीवन्नपि मृतोपमः॥
sa jīvati yaśo yasya kīrtiryasya sa jīvati|
ayaśo'kīrtisaṁyuktaḥ jīvannapi mṛtopamaḥ||
He lives [in the true sense], whose fame and reputation are existent in the world.
One whose infamy and slander is spread in the world, though alive, is as good as dead.

स जीवति गुणो यस्य यस्य धर्मः स जीवति।
गुणधर्मविहीनस्य जीवितं निष्प्रयोजनम्॥
sa jīvati guṇo yasya yasya dharmaḥ sa jīvati|
guṇadharmavihīnasya jīvitaṁ niṣprayojanam||
He lives, [who] [strives] for good qualities and dharma.
For the one without dharma and good qualities, life is useless.
